Twitter Unveils New Keyword Targeted Advertisements

By May 20, 2013No Comments

On April 17th, Twitter announced its newest ad platform feature – keyword targeting for timelines. The new Twitter advertisements use Tweet content to determine the best ad targets. This means that Twitter is using the content of your Tweets, replies, favorites, and ReTweets to determine which ads you may be interested in. The keyword targeted ads will appear in your timeline amongst the Tweets from your friends and followers.

According to Twitter, advertisers will find the ad setup process very intuitive and user friendly. In a small test group of advertisers, Twitter found that keyword targeted ads had a significantly higher impression count and level of engagement.

Amid concerns that timelines will be inundated with advertisements, Twitter assures users that their timelines won’t be cluttered with promotional messages. In fact, you won’t notice any increase in the number of advertisements. Instead, the ads you do see will be more targeted to your interests and potentially more beneficial to you.

Twitter’s keyword targeted ads are meant to enhance the user experience of the social media powerhouse. What do you think? Will keyword targeted ads enhance your Twitter experience? Will you be integrating Twitter ads into your social media marketing strategy?
