On May 20th, Google’s Distinguished Engineer Matt Cutts announced on Twitter that Google would begin implementing a new Panda algorithm update.
Panda 4.0 – Google’s first named Panda update since March 2013 – is meant to further target websites with low-quality content and prevent them from showing up high in the organic search engine rankings.
In the wake of Panda 4.0, all webmasters should check their site traffic statistics for any significant drop in traffic from Google organic search. If so, you may have a Panda problem on your hands.
Penguin Update on the Horizon?
There has also been speculation from many sources that the Penguin 3.0 update is just around the corner – perhaps in just a matter of days. This is good news for sites that have been affected by a previous Penguin algorithm update and have since cleaned up their backlink profile. Websites that have cleaned their backlink profile and used the Disavow tool have been known to experience a recovery in the search results after a new Penguin update is released.
If you’ve been hit by a previous iteration of Penguin and are still working on removing low-quality links, hurry up and do so before Penguin 3.0 arrives to give your site a better chance at recovery.
