Ad Space Now Available on Google Maps

By June 10, 2013No Comments

As Google’s online advertising platform continues to evolve with the forced integration of mobile and desktop campaigns, smarter ads, and upgraded ad extensions, Google recently announced a new AdWords feature: advertising on Google Maps.

This new ad space has a huge potential for local advertisers. When searching for a product or service, a searcher may now see advertisements inside the map display next to the search bar. Ads on Google Maps is yet another indication of Google attempting to make search more personalized and localized to the searcher.

Google Maps will be added as a partner website on the AdWords Search Network, allowing advertisers who opt in to the Search Network to display their ads on Google Maps.

Google’s recent attempts to enhance local search marketing include the implementation of Search Pus Your World (SPYW), Google+ Local, Authorship, and the continued evolution of Google+.

Whether you decide to advertise with AdWords or not, it’s important to note the increased importance Google is placing on local search. If your website is not yet optimized for local search or your online presence is lagging behind your competitors, your business should strongly consider implementing a local search engine optimization strategy to capitalize on local search traffic.
